Coorg

Coorg

Coorg, officially called Kodagu, is a hill district in Karnataka rather than a single city. Coffee plantations, forested hills, waterfalls and Kodava culture shape the region’s identity. Madikeri is commonly used as a base, but places of interest are spread across the district. Coorg is ideal for road trips, plantation stays and nature-focused holidays, with enough time needed for travel between different areas.

Best Time to Visit Coorg

Plan your trip around the right season

Oct-MarBest Window

Why visit

Best time for Coorg - clear weather for coffee estate walks, Abbey Falls, Nagarhole day trips, and Madikeri fort. Mornings are crisp and evenings are perfect for a bonfire at homestays.

Keep in mind

December and January school holidays fill up popular homestays fast. Book at least 3 weeks ahead for weekends.

Apr-May

Why visit

Still a pleasant hill escape from Bangalore or Mysuru heat. Coffee blossoms in March-April have a distinctive fragrance.

Keep in mind

Humidity starts building toward June. Views are not as clear as winter months.

Jun-Sep

Why visit

Coorg gets heavy Western Ghats monsoon - waterfalls are at their most dramatic and the forests look stunning.

Keep in mind

Very heavy rain makes driving on ghat roads risky. Landslides are possible on the Madikeri-Mangalore and Madikeri-Mysuru routes.

How to Reach Coorg

Intercity connectivity and travel options

Nearest airports: Kannur International (~110 km) or Mysuru (~120 km); Mangaluru (Mangalore) farther but connected; Mysuru or Hassan rail then 3–5 hr ghat road.
