Kyuling Palace (Nono's Palace)

Kyuling Palace, also written Skyid gling, was the seat of the Nono, the hereditary chieftain who governed Spiti for centuries under loose British oversight after 1846. Its ruins stand on the bank of the Spiti River opposite Kaza, visible to travellers approaching the town from the south. A small museum attached to the site holds artefacts, thangka paintings and manuscripts in Bhoti script connected to the Nono's rule. Though modest compared to Spiti's grand monasteries, the palace offers a direct link to the valley's pre administrative history, before Kaza became the region's headquarters.
