Tashiding Monastery stands on a hilltop between the Rangit and Rathong rivers, about 19 km from Yuksom town. Built in the seventeenth century by the Nyingma sect, it is best known for hosting the Bhumchu festival, a sacred water ceremony held each spring that forecasts the year ahead for Sikkim. Pilgrims consider a visit capable of cleansing past transgressions, and prayer flags and stupas surround the shrine, making it a significant draw for travellers extending their trip beyond Yuksom itself.
