Dubdi Monastery, also called Yuksom Monastery, was founded in 1701 and is regarded as the oldest monastery in Sikkim. A 30 to 40 minute uphill walk through oak and rhododendron forest leads to this Nyingma sect shrine, which holds rare manuscripts and murals depicting deities, saints and demons. The name Dubdi means retreat, and the secluded forest setting lives up to it. Partial views of Yuksom valley open up halfway along the trail, rewarding visitors before they reach the top.
