Shani Dev Temple Kharsali

The Shani Dev Temple in Kharsali village is believed to be among the oldest temples dedicated to Shani Dev in India, built in traditional Himalayan stone and timber style. When Yamunotri Temple closes each winter due to heavy snowfall, the idol of Goddess Yamuna is carried down here and worshipped until the portals reopen around Akshaya Tritiya. This makes Kharsali her recognised winter abode and gives the temple lasting religious importance for pilgrims and locals through the colder months.
