Janki Chatti is the last motorable point before Yamunotri, sitting at roughly 2650 metres above sea level. Pilgrims commonly take a holy dip in its natural hot springs before beginning the 5 to 6 km trek up to the temple itself. The village offers basic accommodation, pony and palanquin services for those unable to walk the full distance, and small shops where pilgrims can buy raincoats, woollens and other essentials needed for the steep climb through changeable mountain weather.
