Ellora Caves

UNESCO World Heritage rock cut caves adjoining Verul village, anchored by the monolithic Kailasa Temple.

Ellora Caves sit almost adjoining Verul village, about a kilometer from Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga Temple, and rank among India's most significant UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The complex spans thirty four caves carved between the sixth and tenth centuries, split across Buddhist, Hindu, and Jain traditions under patronage of the Rashtrakuta dynasty. The Kailasa Temple, carved entirely from a single rock, stands as the largest monolithic structure of its kind anywhere in the world.
