Daulatabad Fort, also known as Devagiri Fort, rises on a steep conical hill roughly fifteen kilometers from Verul on the road toward Aurangabad. Built by the Yadava king Bhillama V in 1187, the fort briefly served as the capital of the Delhi Sultanate under Muhammad bin Tughluq in the fourteenth century. Triple defensive walls, a deep moat, and the thirty meter Chand Minar still stand today, making it one of the best preserved medieval forts in Maharashtra.
