New Kashi Vishwanath Temple (BHU)

A towering 77-metre white marble Shiva temple within BHU campus, built by the Birla family and open to all castes since 1966.

New Kashi Vishwanath Temple, also known as Birla Mandir Varanasi, is located within the campus of Banaras Hindu University (BHU). Built by the Birla family and inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi in 1966, the temple is a modern interpretation of the original Kashi Vishwanath temple and was built to be open to all devotees regardless of caste. The temple soars to a height of 77 metres, making it one of the tallest temples in India. The gleaming white marble structure and its peaceful campus location within BHU make it a distinctive spiritual and architectural landmark in Varanasi.
