Gopal Mandir sits in the middle of Ujjain's old bazaar, its marble spire rising above the surrounding market. Built in the early nineteenth century, the temple follows Maratha architectural style and houses a two foot idol of Lord Krishna on a marble altar with silver plated doors. The doors carry a layered history, having been looted and later restored to the temple. The site remains an active place of worship and a notable stop on any heritage walk through the old city.
