Kopineshwar Mandir

An ancient Shiva temple beside Talao Pali housing one of Maharashtra's largest Shivlings, dating back to the Shilahara dynasty.

Kopineshwar Mandir stands beside Talao Pali as one of Thane's oldest temples, tracing its origins to the Shilahara dynasty between the 8th and 12th centuries. Legend holds that the Shivling was found submerged in the lake after Chimaji Appa recaptured Thane from the Portuguese, and Ramaji Mahadev Bivalkar rebuilt the shrine in 1760. The sanctum houses a Shivling considered among the largest in the state, flanked by smaller shrines to Brahma, Hanuman, Kalika Devi, and other deities. Mahashivratri draws large crowds.
