Thajiwas Glacier sits about three kilometers from Sonmarg town at close to 3,000 meters, making it one of the most accessible glaciers in the Kashmir Valley. A short one to two hour trek through alpine meadows and pine forest leads to its snow covered slopes, or visitors can hire a pony from the Sonmarg market for a more relaxed ride up. Even in peak summer the glacier stays covered in snow, drawing families for sledging alongside trekkers headed further into the surrounding peaks.
