Nilagrad River meets the Sindh River about six kilometers from Sonmarg, its reddish tinted water flowing down from the high mountains and prized by locals for supposed medicinal qualities. Every Sunday, residents gather at the confluence to perform the Zool ritual, bathing in and worshipping the river's waters. Swimming and boating are not permitted out of respect for the site's sacred status, but the surrounding meadows make for an easy, scenic picnic stop on the way toward Baltal.
