Majathal Wildlife Sanctuary covers roughly thirty one square kilometers of steep, forested terrain about thirty five kilometers from Solan, protecting one of the region's last strongholds of the endangered cheer pheasant. Established in 1974, the sanctuary is also home to goral, Himalayan black bear, leopard, barking deer and langur, spread across chir pine and oak forest. Visitors can trek marked trails, camp in season, or stay in forest rest houses, making it a rewarding stop for wildlife watchers willing to go slightly further off the main Solan circuit.
