Jakhu Temple is one of the oldest and most visited temples in Shimla, dedicated to Lord Hanuman and perched atop Jakhu Hill at an altitude of about 2,455 metres — the highest point in Shimla. According to legend, Hanuman rested here while searching for the Sanjeevani herb to save Lakshmana during the Ramayana. A massive 108-foot statue of Hanuman, visible from across Shimla, dominates the hilltop. The temple is surrounded by thick deodar forests and is home to a large troop of rhesus monkeys. The trek up offers panoramic views of the snow-capped Himalayan ranges.
