Ranthambore Fort

A 10th century UNESCO listed hilltop fort inside Ranthambore National Park, rich with temples and legend.

Ranthambore Fort, built by Chauhan rulers in the 10th century, stands on a hill within Ranthambore National Park and forms part of the UNESCO listed Hill Forts of Rajasthan. Its strategic height made it a formidable defensive stronghold, and it carries the tragic history of the 1303 jauhar following Alauddin Khilji's siege. The complex houses around half a dozen temples dedicated to Ganesh, Rama, and Shiva, along with Jain shrines and a 32 pillared chhatri. Massive gates, tanks, and the Badal Mahal ramparts offer sweeping views over the surrounding forest.
