The Navilatirtha Dam spans the Malaprabha river about ten kilometres from Saundatti, forming the wide Renuka Sagara reservoir behind it. Built in 1974, it is counted among Karnataka's shortest dams by length despite the large volume of water it holds back. The area takes its name from the peafowl once common around the water, and it remains a popular picnic and sunset spot for visitors looking to unwind after the climb to the Yellamma temple.
