Rajsamand Lake

One of Mewar's largest man made lakes, built in the 17th century with marble embankments and carved cenotaphs on its southern edge.

Rajsamand Lake stretches across the heart of the town, built in 1660 by Maharana Raj Singh I as a famine relief project across the Gomati, Kelwa and Tali rivers. Its southern edge holds a grand white marble embankment lined with carved steps and cenotaphs known locally as the ghats. Evenings bring a golden light across the water that draws residents for walks along the promenade. Seasonal boating adds to the appeal of this expansive, historic reservoir.
