Satapada sits on the southern edge of Chilika Lake, about 50 km from Puri, at the dramatic point where Asia largest brackish lagoon meets the Bay of Bengal. It is the primary departure point for boat-based wildlife excursions on Chilika and is home to one of the world largest single-lagoon populations of the endangered Irrawaddy dolphin. Motor boat and speedboat tours navigate the open lake toward the Sea Mouth, where dolphins surface close to vessels. The nearby Rajahansa Island and open water vistas add further reward to the journey.
