Pavagadh Fort

Hill fort walls built by Sultan Mahmud Begada in the 14th to 15th century, visible along the climb up Pavagadh.

Pavagadh Fort was raised by Sultan Mahmud Begada as part of the fortifications guarding the hill and the city of Champaner below. Sections of the old wall remain visible along the climb to the summit, whether on foot or via the ropeway, tracing the defensive line the Sultanate relied on for centuries. The fort's remains sit within the wider Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, and while much of the structure has weathered down, enough survives to trace the scale of the original fortification.
