The Chenani-Nashri Tunnel, also known as the Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Tunnel, runs 9.28 kilometres between the towns of Chenani and Nashri on National Highway 44. Opened in 2017, it was India's longest road tunnel at the time and cuts both distance and travel time on the Jammu-Srinagar route by bypassing the landslide prone stretch through Kud, Patnitop, and Batote. Many visitors driving to or from Patnitop pass through it, and the scale of the engineering makes it worth a mention even for those not stopping.
