Palakkad Fort (Tipu's Fort)

Palakkad Fort was built in 1766 by Hyder Ali of Mysore and later fortified by his son Tipu Sultan, standing as one of the best preserved granite forts in South India. Its square layout, thick bastions, and encircling moat reflect a fusion of Kerala and Indo Islamic military architecture, with a Hanuman temple inside once considered sacred by Tipu's soldiers. The Archaeological Survey of India now maintains the grounds, which include a small museum, a walking track along the moat, and open lawns used for morning walks and public events.
