Jata Shankar Cave sits among massive boulders and is regarded as the place where Lord Shiva hid from the demon Bhasmasura. Natural stalagmite formations inside resemble the god's matted locks, giving the cave its name, while a striking rock shape near the rear is likened to the hood of the serpent Sheshnag. A small underground stream runs through the cave and is believed to connect to the sacred Ganga.
