Nilgiri Tea Museum

The Nilgiri Tea Museum is set within a functioning tea factory about 8 km from Ooty town. The Nilgiris have been producing tea since the 1860s, and the museum traces that history through antique processing machinery and archival displays.

Visitors can observe the full production process - withering, rolling, drying, and sorting - and learn how the cool, moisture-rich altitude gives Nilgiri teas their distinctive flavour profile. The tour ends with a tasting session and an opportunity to buy fresh tea directly from the estate. Visit on weekdays for the best chance of seeing the factory in full operation.
