Hunder Sand Dunes

The Hunder Sand Dunes stretch along the Shyok river about seven kilometers from Diskit, formed by wind carrying sand from the riverbed into low rolling banks. The setting is unusual for the Himalayas, a genuine cold desert landscape framed by snow peaks on all sides. Evenings here draw the largest crowds, when the light turns golden and local stalls serve tea and snacks along the dune edge.
