Jonnawada Kamakshi Temple

A 12th-century Shakti Peeth on the Penna's bank near Nellore, dedicated to Goddess Kamakshi and Mallikarjuna Swamy.

Jonnawada Kamakshi Temple stands on the northern bank of the Penna River, about twelve kilometres from Nellore, and is counted among the Ashtasakthi Peethas of South India. Built around 1150 by the Chola-era ruler Manumasiddhi, the temple houses Goddess Kamakshi alongside Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy, with a five-tier gopuram topped by gold kalasams. Adi Shankaracharya is said to have installed a Sri Chakra here. The temple hosts a ten-day festival dedicated to the goddess, drawing pilgrims from across coastal Andhra.
