Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary

Plan your visit to Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary with practical local information, updates, and travel context.

Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary lies on the rain shadow eastern slopes of the Western Ghats, about 60 kilometres from Munnar. Unlike the misty greenery of Eravikulam, Chinnar has a drier, scrubby landscape that supports a remarkably diverse range of wildlife including elephants, leopards, and the rare grizzled giant squirrel found almost nowhere else. The sanctuary offers guided treks, watchtower stays, and crocodile spotting along the Chinnar River, making it one of the more adventurous escapes in the Munnar belt.
