Jejuri Khandoba Temple

A hilltop shrine to Khandoba, Maharashtra's presiding deity, reached by around 200 stone steps near Morgaon.

Jejuri Khandoba Temple sits atop a hill about seventeen kilometres from Morgaon, dedicated to Khandoba, an incarnation of Shiva regarded as the family deity of much of Maharashtra. Devotees climb roughly two hundred stone steps lined with turmeric powder, past stalls selling bhandara and prasad, to reach the hilltop sanctum. A massive brass tortoise and a cluster of lamp pillars mark the courtyard. The temple draws large crowds during Champa Shashthi and other festivals dedicated to Khandoba.
