Pocharam Dam and Wildlife Sanctuary

A former royal hunting ground turned wildlife sanctuary with panthers, sloth bears, and migratory birds.

Pocharam Dam and Wildlife Sanctuary spreads across 130 square kilometers around a lake formed by a check dam on the Alair river, a tributary of the Manjira. Once the hunting ground of the Nizams of Hyderabad, the sanctuary has protected its forests and wetlands since 1952. Panthers, sloth bears, wild boar, chital, and nilgai roam the woodland, while migratory birds gather on the lake between September and January. A watchtower and eco center let visitors spot wildlife safely.
