Thanga Island is one of the few permanently inhabited settlements within Loktak Lake, home to a fishing community that has adapted its entire way of life to the floating phumdis. Visitors arrive by boat and can join sunrise canoe rides through the marsh channels, watch traditional fishing methods, or simply walk through the village to see phumshangs, the floating huts built from bamboo and reed. It offers a grounded, everyday counterpoint to Loktak's more scenic viewpoints.
