Lachen Monastery (Ngodub Choling Gompa)

A 19th century Nyingma monastery above Lachen village with murals, prayer wheels, and mountain views.

Built in 1858 by Lama Karchen Dorje Drak, Lachen Monastery belongs to the Nyingma order of Tibetan Buddhism and sits on a hillside about a kilometer from the village center. Locals also call it Ngodub Choling or Lachen Gompa. Inside, a statue of Guru Padmasambhava presides over walls painted with vivid murals, while rows of prayer wheels line the approach. The monastery hosts mask dances during Saga Dawa and offers sweeping views over Lachen Chu and the surrounding conifer forest.
