Narayan Sarovar

One of Hinduism's five sacred lakes in Lakhpat, surrounded by temples and a desert wildlife sanctuary.

Narayan Sarovar is considered one of the five sacred lakes of Hinduism, alongside Mansarovar, Pampa, Bhuvaneshwar and Pushkar, located in the remote Lakhpat taluka of Kutch. According to legend, the lake formed when Lord Narayan touched the ground during a period of drought in response to sages' prayers. A cluster of temples surrounds the lake, and the adjoining wildlife sanctuary shelters species such as chinkara and desert fox. The site combines pilgrimage and nature in one remote, less visited corner of the district.
