Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary

A Western Ghats forest reserve around Kollur protecting the lion tailed macaque, cane turtle and several waterfalls.

Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary spreads across the forested hills surrounding Kollur along the Kundapur Kollur Shimoga road, sheltering endangered species such as the lion tailed macaque and cane turtle. The sanctuary also contains several of the region's waterfalls, including Arishina Gundi and Belkal Theertha, making it the umbrella destination for nature focused day trips from the temple town. Entry into forest sections typically requires permission at a checkpoint, and the sanctuary is supported in part by international wildlife conservation efforts.
