Chakan Fort, also called Sangramdurg, is a modest square land fort about 19 kilometres from Khed, first fortified in the thirteenth century and later held by Nizamshahi, Mughal, and Maratha rulers in turn. It earned its place in Maratha history in 1660, when killedar Firangoji Narsala and roughly 350 soldiers held off Shaista Khan's Mughal army for nearly two months. Little remains today beyond broken ramparts, a few restored bastions, and the entrance gate, but the fort still draws history enthusiasts.
