Vamana Temple

An 11th-century Chandela temple in Khajuraho's Eastern Group dedicated to Vishnu's dwarf avatar Vamana, with richly detailed apsara carvings.

Dedicated to Vamana, the dwarf avatar of Lord Vishnu, this 11th-century Chandela temple stands in Khajuraho's Eastern Group. Its exterior walls carry richly detailed carvings of apsaras, celestial nymphs, and erotic couples executed with the characteristic precision of the Chandela school. The presiding deity inside the sanctum is a standing Vamana figure. Less visited than the Western Group temples, it offers an unhurried opportunity to study Khajuraho's sculptural tradition up close without the crowds.
