Shantinatha Temple

The grandest Jain temple in Khajuraho's Eastern Group, featuring a 16-foot black stone Shantinatha statue decorated with jewels.

The grandest Jain temple in Khajuraho's Eastern Group, dedicated to Shantinatha, the 16th Tirthankara. The sanctum houses a remarkable 16-foot statue of the deity carved from black stone and decorated with precious jewels and gold. The temple also contains idols of other Jain tirthankaras, including a large Adinatha sculpture. Built in the Nagara style with curvilinear spires, it stands as the finest example of Chandela-era Jain patronage at Khajuraho, alongside the Parshvanatha and Adinatha temples in the same enclosure.
