Built by the Mayipady rulers in the 10th century and renovated through the 15th, Madhur Temple sits on the banks of the Madhuvahini river about eight kilometers from town. Though popularly linked to Lord Ganapathi, the presiding deity is Anantheswara, a form of Shiva. Its three tiered dome, with copper plate roofing on the upper two levels, blends Hindu and Jain architectural styles, and the carved wooden pillars inside draw visitors interested in temple craftsmanship as much as devotees.
