Garakhiadol Temple sits about six kilometres from Jorhat in Malow Ali, at Monaimaji village, and centres on a local legend involving Gorakhia cattle herders. According to the story, a young herder allowed himself to be sacrificed after failing to find the customary daily offering, and the spot where he died grew into a termite mound resembling a Shiva lingam. Devotees now wrap the mound in traditional Assamese gamucha cloth and treat it as a sacred site.
