Dhekiakhowa Bornamghar stands about fifteen kilometres east of Jorhat and ranks among Assam's oldest Vaishnavite prayer halls, founded in 1461 by the saint reformer Madhavdeva. According to local tradition, the namghar takes its name from a poor couple's humble offering of dhekia fern, and its earthen lamp, lit by Madhavdeva himself, is said to have burned continuously ever since. The hall remains an active centre of worship and community gathering, drawing devotees for daily prayer sessions known as Naam.
