Kangla Fort

Kangla Fort, also called the Palace of Kangla, served as the seat of the Meitei kings since around the first century AD and held deep political and religious significance for centuries. Ruins of temples, ceremonial halls, and the statue of Kangla Sha, representing the state animal Sangai, remain within the grounds. The fort changed hands after the Anglo Manipur War of 1891 and opened to the public only in 2003, making it one of Imphal's most historically layered sites.
