Kalachakra Gompa

A serene 500-year-old Buddhist monastery in Kalachakra village, one of the oldest gompas in the Dirang valley.

Tucked in Kalachakra village a short drive from town, Kalachakra Gompa is believed to be more than five centuries old, making it one of the region's oldest surviving monasteries. Its yellow-painted walls, strings of prayer flags, and modest scale set it apart from Dirang's larger, newer gompas. Local children often play in the courtyard on quiet afternoons, and resident monks continue daily rituals inside. The site draws far fewer visitors than Tawang's monasteries, which keeps its atmosphere genuinely tranquil.
