Dirang Dzong sits on a ridge a few kilometres from town, its current stone structure raised in 1831 atop what locals believe was a much older defensive site. Two fortified gateways and several traditional houses survive, though most of the outer wall has crumbled. Unlike a typical monument, the Dzong is a living neighbourhood, so visitors walk through an occupied village rather than a roped-off ruin. There is no formal tourist infrastructure, and a respectful, unhurried visit is expected.
