Dehing Patkai National Park, long known locally as Jeypore Rainforest, spreads across an area roughly sixty to eighty kilometres from Dibrugarh and holds the distinction of being Assam's only true rainforest. Declared a wildlife sanctuary in 2004 and upgraded to national park status in 2021, it shelters elephants, hoolock gibbons, leopards and more than one hundred orchid species across dense evergreen cover often called the Amazon of the East. Elephant rides, trekking and river rafting draw visitors willing to make the longer trip out from the city.
