Unao Balaji Sun Temple stands in the small town of Unao, seventeen kilometres from Datia, and is counted among India's few surviving temples dedicated to the Sun God. The sanctum houses the deity on a brick platform ringed with twenty one triangles representing the phases of the sun, while a nearby tank and the Pahooj river below are believed to cure skin ailments through ritual bathing. Sundays draw the heaviest crowds, when special prayers mark the day associated with the deity.
