Sonagiri spreads across two hills roughly fifteen kilometres from Datia, holding more than one hundred white spired Jain temples built from the ninth century onward. Temple 57, the largest on the hilltop, enshrines an eleven foot idol of Chandraprabhu and anchors a pilgrimage circuit that Digambar Jains have followed for centuries. Pilgrims climb barefoot past shrine after shrine, pausing at a hollowed rock kund and a stone said to ring like metal when struck, before descending through the temple town below.
