Jama Masjid Chanderi

Jama Masjid in Chanderi was built around 1251 under Ghiyasuddin Balban and stands out among north Indian mosques for having no minarets at all, an unusual choice for its scale and period. Its main entrance carries detailed geometric and floral carving, opening onto a large courtyard flanked by pillared cloisters with the prayer hall closing the western end. Large enough to hold close to two thousand worshippers, it remains one of Chanderi's oldest and most architecturally distinct religious buildings.
