Baijnath Temple

A 1204 CE Shiva temple on the Binwa River, revered as Vaidyanath and marked by exquisite Nagara style stone carvings.

Baijnath Temple stands on a grassy rise above the Binwa River in the small town of Baijnath, its Nagara style shikhara rising against the Dhauladhar range. Built in 1204 CE by two local merchants, Ahuka and Manyuka, the temple is dedicated to Shiva as Vaidyanath, the lord of physicians, and its sanctum houses a lingam believed to hold healing water. The ASI protected walls carry intricate carvings of apsaras and gandharvas. Thousands of pilgrims gather here for Maha Shivratri.
