Qila Lohgarh Sahib served as the arms manufacturing centre among Anandpur's five defensive forts, producing weapons for the Guru's forces during a period of near constant tension with Mughal and hill state powers. The fort's name, drawing on the word for iron, reflects this practical, military role rather than a purely ceremonial one. Little of the original nineteenth century structure survives intact, but the site remains a meaningful stop for visitors piecing together the defensive network that once protected Anandpur Sahib during the Gurus' residence there.
