Ugra Stambham

Split rock formation marking the mythological spot where Narasimha emerged to slay Hiranyakashipu.

Ugra Stambham marks the cleft in the mountain where legend holds that Narasimha burst forth from a pillar with such force that the hill itself split in two. Reaching it involves a steep, roughly two hour trek from Jwala Narasimha along an eighty degree incline, so a local guide is strongly advised. The site includes an impression said to be the footprint of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, who visited during his travels through South India. Only the physically prepared should attempt this climb, and daylight arrival is essential given the terrain.
