Badrinath Yatra 2026
Badrinath is usually the last stop on Char Dham: Lord Vishnu as Badrinarayan beside the Alaknanda, between the Nar and Narayan mountains. For most Indian families it is the easiest of the four because road goes to town. There is no Kedarnath-style trek.
August 2026 status: open since 23 April. The highway via Joshimath still faces monsoon landslide risk, but Badrinath often remains the relatively smoother darshan when trek routes are messy. Prefer September–October if you can wait. Closing is tentatively about 13 November 2026 (final date from the temple committee). In winter the deity’s worship continues at Joshimath.

How to reach
Common plan: Haridwar / Rishikesh → Devprayag → Rudraprayag → Karnaprayag → Joshimath → Badrinath (about 45 km from Joshimath).
| Mode | Notes |
|---|---|
| Train | Haridwar / Rishikesh, then full day (or more) by road |
| Flight | Dehradun, then long road via Rishikesh / Joshimath |
| Helicopter | seasonal Char Dham / package helicopter options into the Badrinath side; registration still required |
Night driving on hills is often restricted. Stay a night in Joshimath if the group includes elders or you are arriving late.
Nearby places
- Tapt Kund: hot spring by the Alaknanda; many bathe before darshan where permitted
- Brahma Kapal: riverside spot associated with pind daan rituals
- Mana: last Indian village before the Tibet border, about 3 km; mythologically linked to the Pandavas
- Vasudhara Falls: longer outing beyond Mana; only if weather and energy allow
Phones and cameras are banned beyond key temple entry points (use the cloakroom at Singh Dwar / complex entry). Do not plan to film inside.
Best time to visit
- May–June: peak, Neelkanth views, crowds
- July–August: open; watch highway advisories
- September–October: strong choice for remaining 2026 travel
Practical tips
- Warm clothes even in May; nights are cold
- ATMs exist in town but stock cash before remote stretches

- If combining with Kedarnath, keep spare days between the two routes in monsoon
Checklist
- Printed Badrinath e-pass
- Joshimath or Badrinath stay booked in peak weeks
- Cloakroom plan for phone before temple entry
- Cash + warm layer + rain shell in monsoon
FAQ
Is Badrinath reachable by car?
Yes. Vehicles reach Badrinath town. That is why many elders do Badrinath even when they skip the Kedarnath trek (or use helicopter for Kedarnath).
What are Badrinath darshan timings?
General pattern is morning + evening with a midday closure. Exact slots shift; ask locally the day you arrive. Special morning pujas may need separate booking via temple channels.
When does Badrinath close in 2026?
Tentatively around 13 November 2026. Winter worship continues at Joshimath.
